our services

Power Connections

Design and build of new electricity connections.

We specialise in the design and build of new electricity connections, from small service connections to high-voltage schemes. We carry out all design work, including load assessments, route planning, and protection and earthing studies. Cappers complete substation design and build and our in-house civils department, cable installation teams, and qualified jointers then install the cables before completing full testing and commissioning.

We liaise directly with land owners, DNOs and IDNOs, secure the point of connection, and manage all adoption requirements. We also handle associated land rights and legal agreements to ensure a smooth and compliant process from start to finish.

The result is a customer-focused, efficient, and fully managed connection service. We deliberately take on a select number of projects at any one time, allowing us to provide each client with dedicated support throughout the entire process and ensure every connection is delivered to the highest standard with minimal disruption to your site.

Civil Engineering Works

Excavation, cabling, reinstatement and groundworks.

Our services include trial excavations and route proving, trench excavations, power and fibre duct installation, as well as joint bays, point-of-connection excavations, chamber construction, substation bases, and full power and fibre cable installations.

With Cappers’ vast civils and utilities experience, we meticulously plan routes at design stage to minimise risk and eliminate potential budget overspend. We liaise with local authorities early in the process, managing all road noticing, permits, and traffic management requirements.

Cappers take pride in our commitment to zero fixed penalties and reinstatement failures, consistently working to the highest standards under NRSWA specifications. This proactive approach ensures every project is delivered safely, compliantly, and without disruption to the wider programme.

What is an ICP?

An Independent Connection Provider (ICP) is an accredited company that designs and builds new electricity connections as an alternative to using the local Distribution Network Operator (DNO) such as Scottish Power or SSE.

ICPs are authorised under the National Electricity Registration Scheme (NERS) to carry out contestable works; the parts of a new connection project that can be safely and legally delivered by an approved independent company rather than the DNO.

In simple terms, this means that when a new development or site needs power, the client can choose an ICP like Cappers ICP to handle the design, installation, testing, and commissioning of the connection.

Once complete, the new asset can then be adopted by an Independent Distribution Network Operator (IDNO), who owns and maintains it going forward.

why choose cappers?

We know that communication and attention to detail matter. That is why we pride ourselves on being responsive, approachable and committed to delivering cost effective solutions that meet your deadlines.

Our process is straightforward and proven:

Choosing an ICP brings several key benefits:

Faster Delivery

Projects can progress without waiting for DNO capacity or scheduling delays.

Cost control

Competitive pricing and greater flexibility in how works are delivered.

Complete management

One point of contact from design to energisation.

Quality and compliance

Work completed to the same technical standards as the DNO, fully NERS accredited.

At Cappers ICP, we provide a complete end-to-end service, combining in-house civils, cable installation, jointing and testing teams with full design and project management.

Our goal is to make the entire process clear, efficient, and customer-focused — guiding clients through every stage from the initial application to the final connection.
